Bought with Mavic 3 Cine, log out issues are for real
Dan Photos· Review provided by bhphotovideo.com · June 7, 2023
As the other user stated below, the auto log out issues are real and a serious impediment to being productive on jobs or outings in areas with no wifi or cell service. I bought my Mavic 3 Cine with the RC Pro in August of last year from B&H. I took the kit to Iceland where it was simply fantastic. Once I returned there was an update for the drone and remote. So I read the description and decided it was worth it and did the update.

When I restarted I had to log back into DJI via the app on the remote, no big deal, right? Wrong. No matter how often you fly or if you fly not at all, after one month, the app logs you out. There was no heads up from DJI about this, there is no schedule you can follow, no on screen warning you can set, nothing. I have done tests with other DJI drones that can use this controller and the regular DJI RC Remote does not pull this stunt with my Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic 3 Pro or Mini 3 Pro, it simply fires up and you are off and running. A user on the DJI boards has said that his Air 2 using the RC Pro also logs him out.

For those of us who work professionally in remote areas like the Arctic, Greenland, South America, etc where great drones like the new Mavic 3 Pro are amazing tools, this is a serious show stopper. Even for people working in not so remote areas the notion of potentially having your drone be majorly handicapped until you can log in somehow takes the "Pro" aspect of this RC right out of the equation. I really hope DJI is working on a fix, because of this, the regular RC Remote is more of a Pro option than this one is.
[Rewarded Review] Beware...DJI can turn your controller into a useless brick

There is a little-known feature in DJI's newer apps that automatically logs you out of your DJI account after a specified amount of time and renders the controller and drone useless. Yesterday when I was on a remote job site, I fired up the the RC Pro Remote only to have the app inform me that I was logged out of my account and needed to log back in. I was far from cellular access.

There is nothing about this in any of the descriptions of the

product or in the manuals. But after posting the experience in DJIForum, I was informed by a DJI employee that the app automatically logs you out after 3 months for security reasons. I received the Mavic 3 and RC Pro Remote less than 3 months ago. I simply do not understand the reason behind the requirement to be logged into a DJI account to fly the drone. It had just been used on a job a few days prior and there was absolutely no warning in the app about the impending auto-logout.

Without being logged in, the app limited my flights to a max of 30

meters elevation and 50 meters distance. I spent 30 minutes trying, in vain, to figure out a work-around. Consequently, I lost the best lighting on a 2000-foot cliff behind the property I was hired to shoot.

Aside from yesterday's costly disaster, I really like the RC Pro Remote. While the display is still a bit small, it is bright enough to be useful on a sunny day.
After latest update, finally is almost useful but still not worth the price

Before I start my review, I'd just like to point out something for comparison. The controller that came with the Mavic 2 for free and was more functional and could be hooked up to an iPad Mini for a cost of $350. You could use the more functional DJI GO4 app on the bigger iPad screen. So free plus $350 = $350. This has a smaller screen, no way to integrate with an app on an iPad and comes with a less functional app for $1200.

It's hard to tell if this problem is the Mavic 3, the RC Pro, or (probably) both, but my mavic 2 connected to satellites within seconds of powering up and I could fly pretty much right after turning on the controller and drone. With the Mavic 3 and RC Pro, it takes MINUTES to connect to enough satellites to make the warnings go away (UPDATE: DJI says this will be fixed in a firmware update for the drone).

If you read my Mavic 3 review you know one of my big issues was the fairly functionless controller it came with. No 5D, C1, C2, exposure dial, no dual controller support, and no telemetry screen. The RC-Pro was supposed to fix most of that (the buttons).

Imagine my surprise that there was no way to program any of the buttons to adjust the shutter or aperture. You could only program the 5D to increase or decrease EV, which only works in auto mode. So a controller with the word "Pro" in it for a drone priced for pros can't adjust shutter and aperture.

The Mavic 2 controller (on it's awesome LCD screen) told you the exact battery percentage of the controller, this just has 4 green lights. Another step back.

Using the dial to zoom is VERY NICE. The sticks are very nice. I will give them that. I'd like to see a way to bind a button such as C1 to toggle if the dial is used to zoom or change shutter or aperture.

As for the rest of it, the controller feels MUCH better in my hands than the RC-N1. I wish it came with loops to screw into the bottom so I didn't have to search my local Ace.

The screen is very nice and high quality but is very small. It is very annoying to scroll through the settings pages because there isn't enough room on the screen. I have changed slider settings by accident while trying to scroll up and down. I wish they designed the app more in mind for this smaller screen. For instance instead of having to scroll for the settings for cine, normal, and sport mode, it would be better to have a select dropdown or buttons on the top that changed the settings displayed, so so you didn't have to scroll.

I wish there was a way to use my iPad instead or in addition to this very tiny screen.

For the amount they charge for this ... just wow. Because of the cost of this and how it lacks such basic functionality right now, I can't in good conscience give it more than a 2. If they fix it to be able to use the extra buttons for actual useful functions (shutter and aperture) I can bump it up to a 3. There is no way this can ever be a 5 and I think even a 4 is out of reach. The only way I think this could be a 4 is if 1) they fix the buttons and 2) it was half the price and 3) they let you plug in a device via USB to use an app on a tablet with a bigger screen.

There are 3 main components of this sUAS, the controller, the drone, and the app. There is no gracious relationship between the 3 of them.

These do not fit properly. The screws are too short and do not allow connection of the corners to the controller. The corners are not fabricated with the right fit to the corners of the controller and make the issue worse. Very frustrating and for what I paid for this they should fit properly. I suppose if you sent me longer screws and I shaved down your corners I could make them work, but why should I have to do that? Let me know what you can do because these do not work.
