August 5, 2024I recently had the pleasure of using the DJI SDR transmission combo for the first time and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed! After a bit of a long firmware update process that is a must to quiet the fans(Don't worry they are fully adjustable and there is a silent mode) it was extremely fast to sync together and the QR code generated o the TX is great for mobile connections. The compact size and lightweight design of the system make it incredibly easy to transport and set up, without compromising on performance.
One of the standout features of this combo is the impressive power options it offers. Despite its small size, the DJI SDR transmission combo delivers a powerful performance that ensures smooth and reliable transmission of high-quality video and audio this was a surprise. The system consistently provided a strong and stable connection no matter how far away I got. The mobile app was also impressive but does have limitations. I noticed on a iPhone the exposure is always a bit dark but on an iPad it looks perfect. The delay via mobile is noticeable at times from an AC perspective (totally acceptable for clients) but the normal RX in my opinion is acceptable for pulling focus.
I was able to secure the TX to the bottom of a RS2 with the provided bracket but the USB-C does not power though the Gimbal unless you have the newer RS3/4. I was able to still use it with a small NP-f battery and could get at least 80min of run time.
Distance was mind blowing between the TX and RX. I wasn't able to get a signal drop out over a thousand feet away and for this price point this was shocking.
Only downside is no loop out of the TX but a small sacrifice for this price point. Cross conversion SDI-HDMI is perfect and there was even a setting to force output to 60fps on RX. For a firmware version 1.0 it was mostly stable and I can only see improvements from here.
Overall, I highly recommend the DJI SDR transmission combo to anyone looking for a reliable and portable solution for their video transmission needs. Its combination of size, weight, and power options make it a standout choice in the market

November 5, 2024I recently purchased the DJI SDR Transmission. I've tried testing it multiple times over the last few days and every time the signal constantly drops out. The drop outs only last a second or two as the receiving monitor first flashes black and then my monitor's no input screen pops up. Sometimes it will happen just once or twice every few miinutes, other times it will happen 5 or 6 times in less than a minute. The camera is a Red Komodo X, the receiving monitor is a brand new Atomos Shinobi. I'm using SDI for both, I have tried swapping through multple SDI cables at both connection points, including using brand new cables but it hasn't helped. I've tried switching from the AUTO setting to manually choosing various channels, this too did nothing. I own a Teradek system, so just to confirm it had nothing to do with my camera, monitor, or cables, I switched everything to the Teradek and everything worked flawlessly. Switched back to the DJI system and the drop outs started almost immediately.

September 16, 2024When I purchased these units the specifications delineated Audio output Through the 3.5 mm jack. Sadly this is not the case as you might expect…this feature was the only reason I purchased this unit but proved to be misrepresented. Apparently it can only be used with a few specific headsets to be used like walkie-talkies in each end.. It will not transmit the audio of your cameras HDMI signal over 3.5mm jack. I needed to send the video out of the receiver into a projector over HDMI (which has no audio output ) and use the 3.5 mm output of the SDR to go to a mixing board. Disappointed that this feature was poorly described since I needed it to work for a massive wedding in a few days.
I was able to transmit the video through multiple Concrete and Adobe walls which was impressive. Just not useful without the analog audio output for my use case. It would be handy if you needed to speak with a focus puller over headset and didn’t have an alternative communication method.

July 31, 2024I used this in a broadcast scenario with my Sony FX3 on a gimbal going into a church’s BMD Atem video switch. The feed was clean. Even with a crowd of people between the transmitter and the receiver, it never got glitchy. I don’t know how the HDMI out looks but the SDI is very crisp. Love to see it. I will say the setup process is horrendous and took 25 minutes out of my already packed filming day, but I’m grateful that I had the time and my laptop with me.
You need to make sure you have the software specific for Ronin or it won’t work. I had to download a couple apps with the same name until I figured that out. Also, use the cable it comes with. Even though it’s USB C, somehow it’s proprietary and my gigabit C wouldn’t allow the device to talk to my MacBook. After the setup, these devices work seamlessly. They are fairly efficient when it comes to battery draining.
Because the setup, I would’ve given 4 stars BUT these are so reliable, the footage looks dang clean, and the cost is so low, I can’t help but to give it 5 stars. Hot dang DJI is cooking!
