[Rewarded Review] Much more convenient
Adam· Review provided by bhphotovideo.com · July 3, 2023
I love this remote. The visibility of the screen is pretty darn good. I still try to find a bit of shade to make sure I don't get any unwanted glare while flying.

Two things to be aware of:

#1 The battery life isn't as long as the remote that comes with the drone. That's to be expected since you're also powering a screen. Just know that you'll need to recharge it a little more than the OG remote. But don't let that scare you off. It's not a ton more.

#2 The antennas are not as strong as the OG remote. You don't have extendable antennas which is a shame because I've lost signal a few times with my drone. Again don't let that scare you off because your drone will return to home. In that time you will re-establish signal and you can override the RTH. Just be mindful of buildings or trees between you and your drone.
Very convenient and seller was excellent.

I initially purchased one for my Air 2S when they were first released but it limited the range compared with the regular controller so I attached it to my Mini 3 Pro and it worked better. After several updates the RM330 greatly improved it's range so I got another one. You can switch from one drone to the other with the same controller with an update each time switching them but when I want to fly I like to just get up there. After several years of attaching my phone to them it's very nice and very convenient to just power up and take off without doing anything else.
[Rewarded Review] Some Good, Some Bad

The Good:

- Bright screen, doesn't dim like on iOS

- Two control wheels, allowing one for exposure offset

- Two custom buttons

- Lighter weight than standard controller, especially when adding iOS device

The Bad:

- AirSense is limited to 1000', so aircraft is basically ON TOP OF YOU when it shows up.

- Screen not as responsive as with iOS, with some delay in actions.

- No quick way to quit and re-open the app if it glitches or freezes.

- New type of joystick, not compatible with older models... and can't control without the joysticks attached (something I do for finer control)

- Less battery life than standard RC-1 (2.5hrs vs 6hrs)

- Screen recording is lower quality than with iOS

- No external display output.

- Disconnects from Wifi+Bluetooth upon launch... so maps cannot be updated while flying.

- Does not reconnect to Wifi upon landing... so flight records are not automatically synced.

Notes about the DJI Fly App:

- DJI Fly still does not allow Custom LUTs, so it's required to either fly using their LUT (called Color Display Assist), or without any LUT (flat) while in D-Log.

- The DJI Fly Color Display Assist (LUT) causes gross underexposure of the image, wasting dynamic range. (The LUT lifts the exposure)

- DJI Fly app has changed the histogram to the old (good) way, so Color Display Assist does not affect it (a good thing), BUT it still behaves differently in 5.1K. This makes it confusing when the histogram changes between different resolutions.

- The RC version of the DJI Fly app is outdated, and doesn't have the same features as the iOS app... considerably, the AirSense 'sensitivity' options.

Notes about the Mavic 3 and the Fly App:

- When taking long exposures (at night), the display is extremely noisy with a magenta cast. It is not properly showing what a long exposure might look like.
Good Remote but a Great Value

I have been flying DJI drones for a long time having owned a P1, P2, P3, Mavic 2, Mavic 3, Mini, and Mini 2. I also hold a Part 107. I have also owned several other DJI products and accessories. I think that the RC Remote is one of the best accessories DJI has released for one of its products. It achieves a rare balance between function and price.

The Sticks have a great feel, and the screen is plenty bright for the sunny south Florida climate that a I am flying in day to day. The range is more than enough for Line-of-Sight flight even in areas with lots of interference. The only negative is that you can't download 3rd party apps to the remote. This is a DJI software lock since the remote is running android. Something they could easily fix with a patch. Also, the remote does not have a HDMI out for a monitor. These missing functions aren?t worth the additional cost of the pro remote in my opinion.
