September 13, 2024As a huge fan of TNBC and of Lego, I was really looking forward to this set. The build was a bit disappointing. A few bits that kept falling apart as other sections were clicked into place. Compared to most other sets, even very complex and potentially fragile builds, it felt like a bit of a backward step. There was no part of the build process where I though, "Wow, that's clever/fun." Lock, Shock, and Barrel felt like a bit of a missed opportunity - very basic, very "It'll do." I would have liked to have maybe alternate head pieces with their signature masks. The Mayor, Jack, Sally, and Zero are fab. The overall aesthetic of the set is great - love the colours - and there's fun little details to discover. I don't feel confident in removing sections to look at those details, though, as they feel fragile. As the review title says, I do like the set, but I don't love it.
Not up to Lego standard

September 15, 2024I was extremely excited when I heard that this set was finally going to get made. Obviously this review of the set in its current iteration will not mention the overwhelming disappointment in the lack of Oogie Boogie. I will focus my discussion on the huge disappointment in the mini figures that were included. The three trick-or-treaters are the laziest mini figures design I have ever seen. Lock has a plain red torso and kid legs with no printing at all. Shock has similar generic features but at least it is a nice purple. The mayor is the biggest disappointment of all. He can barely be categorized as a mini figure since he is so brick-built. His head does not spin. You would have to take it off to change the face. The hat is so poorly designed it falls apart with the slightest touch.
Recommend But Not to Play With

October 9, 2024I would definitely recommend this build for NBC fans. It was fun to build, but there were a few disappointments. There are a number of pieces that are hidden which didn't make sense to me since you would have to take the house off the foundation to even see them. Paying for pieces you can't see was a little disappointing especially since the set is fragile in my opinion and not one that you can play with without it falling apart. The top half of Jacks house is barely secure and if not careful will come apart. The black rounded parts of the cemetery are not secure and will fall off easily. Also, the black shiny pieces for the roof and cemetery scratch easily and taking them out of the bag there were a number of scratches on many pieces. Although I enjoyed the build I feel it should have had a lower price point.
Looks great but build wasn't without its problems

October 31, 2024I was really excited about this built. I love the film and thought it would be a good addition to our Halloween display.
Quite early on, I discovered missing parts. Fortunately, there were some used later in the build so I used them in order to continue. I also had extra parts which aren't on the parts list. Something that has never happened before. The other thing I found strange was the pumpkin fabric piece and Jack's shirt tails were in a brown envelope. This was not clear from the instructions and it took a while for me to find those items.
I'm unsure how sturdy this would be should someone want to play with it. I suspect that it would need reconstructing fairly regularly as there are some parts that are not very well attached.
